About SASTRA University
SASTRA is an Indian university with a rural campus stretching across 168 acres in the southeastern state of Tamil Nadu. The university has been awarded Grade A status by the national government’s Assessment and Accreditation Council.
The university’s full name specifies Arts, Sciences, Technology and Research, and courses are taught across a wide academic field. One of the most renowned of these is the school of Mechanical Engineering, established in 1984 as an original school of the university. Today the school offers undergraduate degrees in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, as well as integrated masters in Advanced Manufacturing and Automobile Engineering.
The school of Law offers a five year LL.B programme. Under the snappy strapline ‘Lawgically speaking’ each year the school holds a Moot Court competition, attracting students from across universities in India to pit the legal skills and public debating ability of students against one another until a champion is crowned.
Research performed by SASTRA is at the forefront of progress in higher learning in Indian academia. Some recently completed projects that were undertaken at the university include the creation of 3-D aligned nanofibers for neural engineering or the development of a Dendrimer based drug delivery system for cancer patients, and an ongoing project is the creation of a theranostic device design for the early detachment and treatment of those with pancreatic cancer specifically.
In 2012, software company Tata Consultancy services set a new world record for the largest recruitment from a single campus, hiring 1,755 students directly from SASTRA.
