About October 6 University

October 6 University, founded in 1996, was the first private university in Egypt. It is a member of both the Association of Arab Universities and the Association of African Universities.

The university is located in 6th of October, a city in Giza Governorate, central Egypt. The city’s name commemorates the commencement of the October War, which took place on the 6th of October 1973. Some 32 km away from the city is downtown Cairo, the capital of Egypt and the most populated city in Africa. Cairo’s ancient history has been preserved through its semi-walled medieval city, historical mosques and the Pyramids of Giza. Students can take a trip to Cairo to explore its ancient remnants, some of which date back to 130 CE.

The university’s campus consists of four educational buildings, male and female accommodation, an administrative building, and a central library. There is also a teaching and therapeutic hospital equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The hospital has a capacity of 320 beds and offers medical care services to the community, which includes coronary artery care, kidney transplantation, and open-heart surgery.

These faculties include dentistry, economics and management, medicine and surgery, and pharmacy among others. The university also offers postgraduate courses in collaboration with other universities around the country.

The student body is comprised of approximately 1,500 international students representing more than 30 nationalities between them. This is owning to the university’s collaborative partnerships with many Egyptian and foreign academic institutions.
