About National Chin-Yi University of Technology
Established as a private institution in 1971, the National Chin-Yi University of Technology joined the public sector in 1992 when its founders donated it to the state. It subsequently progressed to become a National Institute of Technology in 1999 and attained its current name and status eight years later. It draws on that mixed heritage to describe itself as "a national university with the spirit of a private school".
Located in Taichung, Taiwan’s second city, it proclaims the benefits of its proximity to the city’s industrial zones including the precision engineers of the "Golden Gorge" and the Central Taiwan Science Park. The city also hosts National Museums of Natural Science and Fine Arts and the National Symphony Orchestra.
Under the motto "Diligence, Determination, Sincerity, Honesty", it proclaims itself a "green-oriented university of technology dedicated to quality industry", an aspiration reflected in the Ministry of Education’s description of it as a "School of Character and Green University".
In 2017, it enrolled 11,547 students across five faculties – electrical engineering and computer science, engineering, general education, humanities and creativity and management. There is a focus on academic-industrial collaboration and current priorities include the development of a Research and Development Institute for Machine Tool and Green Technology.
Recent years have seen a growth in international projects, such as the Taiwan-wide agreement with the All-India Council for Technical Education. The university also has links with Siwibaja State Polytechnic, Indonesia and is one of four Taiwanese partners with the National Institute of Technology, Warangal in the first international Memorandum of Understanding signed by one of India’s National Institute of Technology.
