About Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies

The Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies (or the Universidade Lusofona de Humanidades e Tecnologias) is the largest private university in Portugal.

It was established in Lisbon in 1987 and belong to the Grupo Lusofona, a private Portuguese investment group aiming to develop higher education in Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) countries. Its core mission is to ensure the scientific, cultural, economic and social development of Portugal and all countries where Portuguese is spoken.

The group owns several other universities and colleges in Portugal, Brazil, Cape Verde, Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique. Students from former Portuguese African colonies pay substantially less for their education at Grupo Lusofona institutions.

Although the main campus is located in Lisbon, it also has branch campuses in Torres Vedras, Marinha Grande and Portimão.

The Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies also has semi-autonomous offshoots in Porto, Luanda and Mindelo. Located in the municipality of Campo Grande in Lisbon, it is close to the Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal, the Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo (which is one of the oldest institutions of Portugal and holds documents that pre-date the Kingdom of Portugal), the Museu da Cidade (sometimes known as Pimenta Palace), the Sporting Club de Portugal and Estadio Jose Alvalade.
