About Kwansei Gakuin University
Kwansei Gakuin University is a private university in Japan which dates back to 1889, when it was founded by the American missionary Reverend Walter Russell Lambuth. The university is colloquially known as Kangaku.
The university has six campuses in Nishinomiya Uegahara, Nishinomiya Seiwa, Kobe Sanda, Osaka Umeda, Tokyo Marunouchi, and Takarazuka.
The university has 11 faculties including theology; humanities; sociology; law and politics; economics; business administration; welfare studies; international studies; education; policy studies; and science and technology as well as 13 graduate schools.
The institution has signed agreements for double degree programmes with two partner universities: Mount Allison University in Canada and the University of Queensland in Australia. The programme allows students to obtain degrees from both Kwansei Gakuin University and the partner university. The programme with Mount Allison University is available to students in the schools of sociology, business administration andinternational studies, and the programme with the University of Queensland is available to students in the school of international studies.
The university's symbol is a the crescent moon which represents the purpose of education and the students' growth to fullness in knowledge and wisdom.
Kwansei Gakuin University has agreements with several United Nations organisations. The university and United Nations Volunteers have reached an agreement establishing the university as the first institution of higher education in Asia to form a volunteer-sending partnership with the United Nations Information Technology Service in 2003. The university has also formed a partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in order to establish a special university scholarship system for refugees in Japan.
