Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) established in the year 1985, is situated in Chennai, India. The institution is renowned for its sprawling green campus of 100 acres, with perfect cosmopolitan ambience providing quality education for students across the nation and overseas. There are more than 8000 students pursuing various Undergraduate and Post graduate programmes offered by 11 Schools comprising Engineering, Arts & Science, Humanities, Management, Law, Architecture, Fashion Design and Food Technology. We have students hailing from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Indonesia, Kenya, Korea, Liberia, Libya, Mauritius, Nigeria, Oman, Rwanda, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sudan, U.A.E, Thailand, Vietnam, Tanzania, USA, etc. more HITS boasts of more than 25,000 Alumni and also 5 international alumni chapters across the globe.
HITS has been accredited “A” Grade, by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) as an Autonomous Institution of the University Grants Commission. National Board of Accreditation (NBA) has accredited B. Tech. Programmes offered by Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India has ranked HITS, 95th position among all engineering institutions in India and 10th rank among private engineering colleges in India. In the international front HITS has achieved overall 201-300 rank in THE Impact rankings 2020. It is the only institution in India that tops the table in THE Impact rankings for SDG6 across the globe and it has attained 18th Rank in THE SDG 6 (Clean water and Sanitation), 58th rank in SDG 7 Affordable and Clean energy), 95th Rank in SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 401-600 Rank in SDG 17 (Partnership goals).
The Centre for Research and Consultancy (CRC) has been established at HITS, to promote academic research, sponsored research and consultancy among research scholars, staff and students. HITS executed many major R&D projects and consultancy services in Government agencies, public and private sector industries and international institutions. Several patents are filed and published by the staff and there are more than 40 consultancy projects and 30 funded projects. There are 14 Centres of Excellence with excellent modern laboratory facilities. Centre for Automation and Robotics (ANRO) developed a high tech service robot named SEVILI to assist Medical Frontline during COVID 19 Pandemic. Within a short span of time five SEVILI robots were supplied to Rajiv Gandhi Government Medical Hospital and Chengelpet Govt. Hospital, in Tamil Nadu India..
HITS students have made an indelible mark in international events and competitions. Students are encouraged to participate in design contests, such as those held by SAE, NASA, and Spirit Aero Systems. HITS has signed agreements with more than 90 universities overseas and have active students’ semester exchange programs with France (IPSA and ENAC), Russia (MAI) and also several collaborative partnerships with leading universities that includes City University, London UK, Cranfield University UK, Deakin University, Australia, Dongguk University, South Korea, Korean Aerospace University, South Korea, Texas Tech University, USA, Illinois Institute of Technology, USA, University of Politecnico De Milano, Italy, Moscow Aviation Institute, Russia and many more. It has students and faculty exchange programs with leading international universities.

Lightest Micro Satellite –Jaihind of 33.39 gms has entered into the India Book of records as the lightest micro satellite
India’s First Flying Bike- Project JHATAYU is recognized by the Asia Book of Record & India Book of Records. Dr. Micheale Barratt, Astronaut, NASA, USA bestowed the Best Innovation title to JHATAYU project
Flytta- student start up incubated at Hindustan Technology Business Incubator Centre (HTBI), was selected as a NASSCOM start up and has been provided incubation at T-Hub, Hyderabad, India
Introduction of the Industry 4.0 academic courses had a huge impact in strengthening the quality of education. The introduction of the Choice Based Credit System, implementation of Project Based Learning had a positive impact in the teaching learning process. The Industry Institute Partnership has carved a niche by strengthening the qualitative output of the students by providing internship programmes and hands on training in industries. The university has accomplished its mission and its academic achievements are a testimony. More than 80% of students secure first class with distinctions year after year. 75% students have been placed in leading companies in India and abroad.
