About Chung Shan Medical University
Chung Shan Medical University was originally established in 1960 as Chung Shan Dentistry Specialised School. Two years later it began offering medical education and was renamed Chung Shan Medical Specialised School. In 1977 it was elevated to Chung Shan Medical College. In 2001 it was granted university status by the Ministry of Education and became Chung Shan Medical University.
The university is located in Taichung, a city in central Taiwan.
The university is organised into four academic colleges: college of medicine, college of oral medicine, college of medical science and technology, and the college of health care and management. Within each college are a number of departments offering both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.
The Chung Shan Medical University Hospital is a 1,300 bed hospital located next to the university’s campus. It has been recognised by the Taiwan government as one of 25 major medical facilities on the island. Every year the hospital provides treatment to more than 1 million outpatients.
The Office of International Affairs was established in 2011 to promote the university’s global mobility. Since then, the office has developed partnerships with over 100 other higher education institutions across the world. These partnerships not only facilitate academic and scientific exchanges, but also provide students with the opportunity to study abroad.
