About Bishop Grosseteste University
Bishop Grosseteste University’s origins can be traced back to 1862 when an Anglican teacher training college for women was established. To mark the college’s centenary it was renamed Bishop Grosseteste College. Then in 2012 it was granted full university status and became Bishop Grosseteste University.
The university is named in honour of Robert Grosseteste, the 13th century educator, philosopher, scientist, and Bishop of Lincoln.
The university is one of two public universities located in the city of Lincoln, England. The campus is located a few minutes’ walk from Lincoln Cathedral, Lincoln Castle and the old Roman city. In their spare time students can soak up the city’s rich history and explore the old buildings.
The campus boasts a range of state-of-the-art facilities including an archaeology lab, a business hub, and a cinema. There is also a human performance lab and a theatre available for students to use. Many of the buildings on the campus date back to the 1800s and are designed in a Tudor revival style.
There are various undergraduate and graduate courses available for students to study. These include English literature, health and social care, military history, geography, music, psychology, special educational needs, disability and inclusion and teaching among many others. The university also offers foundation degrees and progression routes for students looking to join the teaching profession.
There is a high proportion of mature students and local students at the university. There are a number of sports teams that students can get involved with including netball, badminton and rugby.
