Priced out

July 6, 2017

Those researching the catastrophic decline in the sale of academic books in arts and humanities publishing (“Worst sellers: warning of existential crisis for academic books”, News, 22 June) should look at price. I used to regularly buy academic books in a variety of disciplines, but I can no longer afford them when softcover books regularly cost more than £60 and even e-books are over £50. Given that the author now regularly does much of the work usually done by editors, these prices seems unjustified and counterproductive.
