No bats or cats?

Philosopher Stephen Mumford (“The truth is out there”, Features, 29 June) is concerned about practical relevance in his subject, yet his “metaphysics of absences” seems limited to one room that lacks a hippopotamus.

Will this research gradually be extended in scope to apply to other rooms not holding other species – a bat, an alligator, a Maine Coon? Or a load of bull?
