About Wuhan University

Wuhan University is located in Wuhan, Hubei, China and is administered by the Ministry of Education in China. It is widely regarded as having one of the most beautiful campuses in China with the presence of Luojia Hill, the East Lake and an abundance of cherry blossom trees.

Wuhan University was founded in 1893 with the approval of the Qing Government. It then became one of the first national universities in modern China when it became the National Wuhan University in 1928. By 1946, the university offered education within six disciplines: liberal arts, law, science, engineering, agriculture and medicine.

In 2000 the new Wuhan University was founded by combining four universities – original Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electrical Engineering, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping and Hubei Medical University.

The university now has 37 schools and departments, and offers over 120 undergraduate programs, over 300 graduate programs, and over 200 doctoral programs. Some of these courses are taught in English.

The university has established research ties and exchange programmes with hundreds of universities across the world.
