About Kent State University

Established in 1910, Kent State University (KSU) is a public research university in northeast Ohio, with an international presence in locations as far afield as New York City, China, Italy, Switzerland and India.

Its main campus boasts classic architecture and an abundance of green, open spaces. Despite its rustic feel, it is situated near bustling metropolitan areas, such as the cities of Cleveland and Youngstown, allowing students to easily visit museums and restaurants, as well as undertake internships at a range of companies.

From its Fashion School to its School of Nursing, students at the university can choose from over 300 undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. Up to a third pursue degrees in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines.

The university is focussed on building its research and education programmes in healthcare and public health through significant new investments, as well as forming strong partnerships with regional medical institutions that include Cleveland Clinic Foundation, University Hospitals and NEOMED.

KSU is also home to the Liquid Crystal Institute, a research and educational centre in the field of liquid crystals. The applications of breakthrough findings at the institute can be found in everything from liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions to computer monitors and newer electronic devices, such as the iPad.

KSU also boasts Ohio’s first accredited aviation flight programme and is authorised by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to offer the only degree programme in air traffic control in Ohio

The university has received a number of Ohio Center of Excellence designations in the categories of Cultural and Societal Transformation, Biomedicine and Healthcare, and Enabling Technologies: Advanced Materials and Sensors.

KSU has a strong athletic tradition and has previously won the Reese Cup for the top Mid-American Conference (MAC) men’s athletic programme, the Jacoby Cup for the top MAC women’s athletic programme and the Cartwright Award for programme excellence in academics, athletics and citizenship.
