About Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University
Named in honour of the late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in 2007, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University is located in Larkana, the hometown of the Bhutto family. The university is also connected to Zulfiqar Bhutto, a former Prime Minister who founded Chandka Medical College in 1973, aiming to establish a much-needed third medical school in Sindh province.
Established in 2008, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University aspires to be Pakistan's premier university, focusing on academic excellence and producing critical thinkers, competent health professionals, and community leaders. Its mission is to advance health indicators through state-of-the-art diagnostic and clinical applications, research, and service delivery.
Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University offers courses in medicine, nursing, and pharmacy through various faculties, including basic medical science, medicine and allied science, surgery and allied science, community medicine and public health, colleges of dentistry and nursing, and institutes of pharmacy and physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University's campus spans 220 hectares on the Larkana-Moen Jo Daro Highway in Arija, with the Benazir College of Nursing and several affiliated colleges nearby. The university has an additional 14 affiliated institutions, including 11 colleges of nursing across Sindh.
