About Indian Institute of Management Mumbai
The National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITE) was formerly known as the National Institute of Training in Industrial Engineering. It was founded in 1963 by the Government of India and the United Nations Development Programme.
The campus provides an escape for students from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is surrounded on three sides by natural lakes and lush greenery. Students even refer to it as God’s own campus.
The institute offers postgraduate courses in different areas of management and industrial engineering. These include accounting and finance, economics and strategy, and engineering technology and project management. There are also PhD courses available for students to study in a number of fields including organisational behaviour and human resource management, and manufacturing and systems management.
Throughout the academic year the institute funds numerous research projects, specialising in management and engineering. The campus boasts a number of research centres, which are available for both students and staff to use.
The International Relations Committee is responsible for overseeing the institute’s academic exchange programmes. The institute has partnerships with various universities around the world, enabling students to study abroad while international students take their place at the institute.
The institute is located in Powai, a neighbourhood in central Mumbai, India. Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra, one of India’s states, and is the second most populous Indian city after Delhi. Mumbai is the commercial and financial centre of India and home to the country’s highest number of billionaires. It is also home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the Elephanta Caves, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, and a number of Victorian and Art Deco buildings.
