About The University of Aizu

The University of Aizu was founded in 1993 in Aizuwakamatsu. It was the first university in Japan to specialise in computer science and engineering. Since its inception, the university has established centres for globalisation, revitalisation, space informatics, business innovation, and more.

The university considers computer science and engineering to not be limited computers, smart phones, game consoles and home appliances, but also medicine, artificial intelligence, art, and events, therefore it offers 12 fields of study. These include: robotics, internet of things (IoT), software, computer art, medical ICT, security, artificial intelligence (AI), social media, space technology, neutral network, programming, and game AI. Courses are available to undergraduate and graduate students.

For outstanding students with unique talents, the university also offers an integrated undergraduate-master’s programme and a unique talent discovery programme which offer financial and other support.

Students can use the range of facilities at the university which include a Geek Dojo workspace for students interested in manufacturing, equipped with 3D printers and laser cutters. There’s also a workout room, relaxation room, global lounge and several computer rooms.

The University of Aizu has partnerships with 100 universities and research institutes in 25 countries and regions across the world. It hosts innovation hubs in Silicon Valley and Dalian in China, as well as conducting overseas training and research opportunities. Students who are interested in developing their global skills can apply to go abroad during their time at the university on either a short or medium term basis through internships and study abroad programmes.
