About Franciscan University of Steubenville
Franciscan University of Steubenville is a Catholic university located in Ohio, with some 97 per cent of students who are actually Catholic.
The university has the greatest number of students studying theology, catechetic, and philosophy than any other Catholic university in the US.
An impressive 81 per cent of faculty hold the highest degree in their field, ensuring that students receive the best education they are able to offer.
Moreover, in 2014, Franciscan University introduced a dual-degree undergraduate engineering degree in partnership with the University of Notre Dame, Gannon University and University of Dayton, which offer an array of different engineering disciplines. Upon graduation, students obtain a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts from Franciscan University as well as a Bachelor in Science conferred by one of the partner schools.
The university also has a study programme in Austria, which enables students to experience another country, and explore various religious, cultural, and historical sites in Europe.
The university has 14 different sports teams – six for men and eight for women. Nicknamed the Barons, the teams compete in NCAA Division III as a member of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. In 2001 Franciscan University became the second college in the US, of any division, to have a varsity rugby team.
There are a wealth of student-run clubs and academic organisations at the university, which include: Computer Science Club, Tennis Club, Students for Life, Philosophy Club, St. Jerome Debate Society, and Biology Club.
The university offers a number of student services, including tutoring and health service. On campus, there are also 24-hour foot and vehicle patrols, late night transport service, 24-hour emergency telephones, and lighted pathways.
Notable alumni include Jason Evert, a Catholic author and chastity speaker who founded Totus Tuus Press and Chastity Project, Regina Doman, a Christian writer who was born in 1970 in Havertown, and Jeffrey Lane Fortenberry, the US Representative for Nebraska's 1st congressional district and member of the Republican Party.
