About Otterbein University
Otterbein University is a private liberal-arts institution located in Westerville, Ohio. First founded by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ in 1847, the university today still draws much of its educational ethos from evangelical Christianity.
Otterbein University is primarily located on a 140 acre campus, 20 minutes’ drive north of the city of Colombus. The university campus has a number of different themed residence halls for first year undergraduates. As well as this, Otterbein offers a flexible range of meal plans, so that students can make the most of the numerous dining options on campus. In addition to this, a number of small apartment complexes are available on campus for older students, and provisions are also made for mature students and sometimes even families.
In terms of academic offerings, the university has over 60 different majors and minors available for undergraduates. These programmes are arranged into a large number of different departments, reflecting the eclectic mix of subjects on offer at the university. The university also offers graduate programmes, such as MBAs in things like nursing and education, although the overall scope of these is far narrower than the range of undergraduate options.
Like many similar institutions, Otterbein University runs its own competitive athletics teams. Known as the Cardinals, they compete in NCAA Division III across a number of different sports, including baseball, American football, cross country, track and field, basketball, lacrosse and many more. In addition, the university also maintains a number of different athletics facilities.
Some famous alumni of Otterbein University include the composer Benjamin Hanby, and the Police Academy actor David Graf.
