About Niagara University

Niagara University is a private liberal arts institution based in the town of Lewiston, Niagara County, New York. It grew to its current status from a Vincentian seminary of six students, established in 1856.

There are four colleges at Niagara University: Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education and Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Niagara University is sponsored by the Congregation of the Mission, a Catholic brotherhood, and upholds the congregation’s faith. Service is a major focus of the university’s Catholic values. All students are encouraged to take part in community service through the universities two volunteering schemes. More than 50,000 hours of community work are carried out by students each year.

Fine arts have a high profile at Niagara University. The main campus is home to the Castellani Art Museum, a collection of contemporary, folk and 19th century art. The museum contains a studio and classroom space for Niagara students and the university is one of just a few places in America to study Art with Museum Studies.

The university’s Academic Exploration Programme provides an avenue for students who are undecided about their major to experience different subjects. As a liberal arts college, the university also gives all students the change to learn from a broad spectrum of fields and gain critical thinking skills.

Student athletes compete in 18 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I sports. The Purple Eagles, as student athletes are called, compete in eight men’s sports and 10 women’s sports, including basketball, soccer and cross country.
