About Delta State University
Delta State University is a public higher level institution based in Cleveland, Mississippi, US. It started as a teacher’s college in 1924 but it now offers a wide variety of programmes alongside Education, ranging from the traditional arts, humanities, and sciences, to rarer programmes, like Commercial Aviation and the nationally-recognized Geospatial Information Technology programme. The degrees are structured across several schools: the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, and Education and in the Robert E. Smith School of Nursing.
The campus has an active life, with over 120 organisations. They include fraternities, sororities, the Student Government Association, religious, political and professional associations such as the Mathematical Association of America, Student Nurses Association, Women in Aviation, as well as common interest associations like the Wildlife Society, Social Work CLub, Chamber Singers, Delta State Cheerleaders.
In addition, you can choose to join one of the 13 available competitive sports and participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division II levels, including football, basketball, baseball, swimming, diving, tennis, soccer, golf, fast-pitch softball and cross-country. The Bologna Performing Arts Center at Delta State University, a 41,500 square feet venue, has become an important arts and entertainment centre in Mississippi and the Southeast region.
A few of the outstanding alumni are Margaret Wade, American basketball player and coach, novelist John Grisham, basketball player Jeremy Richardson, Viola B. Sanders - an American naval officer, pioneering photographer William Eggleston, Nigerian architect Felix Ibru and poet Natasha Trethewey.
