About Salisbury University

One of the 12 members of the University System of Maryland, Salisbury University (SU) is a public, four-year institution located on the historic Eastern Shore and within a short distance of Ocean City, Baltimore, Pennsylvania, and the US capital, Washington DC.

The university opened as a teachers college in September 1925 and over the following decades more and more academic disciplines were introduced and in 1962 the university began offering master’s degree programs for the first time.

It was not until 2001 that the university adopted its current name and today there are four major academic schools - the Fulton School of Liberal Arts, the Henson School of Science and Technology, the Perdue School of Business, and the Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies – offering a total of 42 undergraduate and 14 graduate degree programs.

The 155-acre Salisbury University campus is comprised of 56 buildings including Holloway Hall, the original home of the university in 1925. Other buildings include Henson Hall and the newly built Teacher Education and Technology Center (TETC), while the university is also a designated arboretum that features more than 2,000 species of plants.

There are ten residential halls on-campus which house around 40 percent of Salisbury University students.

The university’s biggest annual event is The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, and the university relay teams consistently raise huge sums for charity. The annual Seagull Century bike ride starts and ends on the SU campus and the 100-mile route is a huge tourism event in southern Maryland.
