About University of Dubuque

The University of Dubuque (UD) is a four year university in the state of Iowa, affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. As a liberal arts college, students study a core curriculum encompassing a broad range of topics and thinking skills.
UD was founded in 1852 by a Dutch Reverend of the German Presbyterian Church as the German Theological School of the North West. German was the language of instruction until 1896. Its founding father wanted to raise a new generation of Presbyterian Ministers to go out to the many new towns which were springing up around the north west at the time. Since 1911 the school has been coeducational.
The university is made up of the schools of business, liberal arts and professional programmes, as well as the theological seminary.
The seminary holds regular guest lectures on topics of faith. It also offers online certifications alongside its residential courses. Graduate students can opt for a one year MA in Christian Leadership, or take units in Hebrew or New Testament Greek, among other topics.
A variety of study abroad programmes are on offer at Dubuque, with 110 programmes in 25 countries. Whether students want to sunbathe on the beach, explore ancient architecture or climb a mountain between classes, there is a suitable study abroad option available.
Fine and performing arts have a high profile at Dubuque. The university aims to get as many students as possible involved in art through organisations like the concert choir, hip hop dance company, improv group and drawing club.
