About Covenant College

Founded in 1955, Covenant College is a liberal arts institution in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.

Though its roots lie in Pasadena, California; Covenant has been based in Lookout Mountain since 1964, when it moved from the St Louis, Missouri campus that it had inhabited for eight years. Its move to Georgia involved renovating an abandoned hotel built in 1928 and containing the biggest ballroom in the American South. The small town of Lookout Mountain is located on the eponymous 2,390-foot mountain ridge, an important American Civil War battle site.

Because Covenant is just south of the Georgia-Tennessee border, the nearest city is actually Chattanooga, now a haven for ecologists and lovers of the outdoors, home to electric buses, pedestrianised bridges and all kinds of walking and cycling trails.

The fourth largest city in Tennessee, the scenic city has a famous history of rail travel, a key railway centre in the 1800s and 1900s that gives its name to Glen Miller’s “Chattanooga-Choo-Choo”.

The majority of students live on campus, in one of 4 halls of residence.

English, education, psychology, biology and business are among its most popular programmes at undergraduate level. Other courses range from chemistry to community development, international studies, mathematics, sociology and interdisciplinary studies.
