University for Industry will charge about 20 per cent only on UfI learning packages supplied through Learning Centres, not for consortia member's own materials, as stated ("UfI will take cut of brand revenue", THES May 14).
UfI will bring real value to our partners by engaging new learners. Our aim is to create demand for 600,000 UfI learning opportunities a year. Each UfI opportunity will attract about Pounds 500 in funding with 80 per cent of revenue going to the Learning Centre Consortia; the rest will cover UfI's costs of learning materials and marketing.
More than 600 organisations have said they want to be suppliers of UfI learning materials, which will bring flexibility to learning. We are committing Pounds 40 million in marketing to attract learners and have signed an agreement with the BBC to run joint campaigns to support Learning Centres.
We expect high levels of interest in forming Learning Centre Consortia and have organised events next month to explain how organisations can become involved.
