There is a need to ensure that the direction that genetic research takes is well considered and ethically informed. There is also a need to ensure that priority is given to integrating disabled people into society so that the concept of "disability" becomes redundant.
While some claims about the potential of genetic research might be overstated, this is no reason not to think about where such research may lead society. Such debate is necessary, important and too often lacking from scientific literature.
