Odds and quads

If this shoe looks good enough to eat that is hardly surprising - it is made of cheese.

April 28, 2011

The unusual footwear was commissioned by Somerset cheese manufacturer Pilgrims Choice from 50 first-year students on Bath Spa University's course on textile design for fashion and interiors as part of a national "cheese couture" competition.

One entrant created her "Jimmy Cheese" shoes from Cheddar and bread, using a stale cheese sandwich for part of the platform sole and extra melted cheese to embellish the shape. Others branched out with Wensleydale and Double Gloucester or incorporated cheese wrappers into their highly unusual hats, belts and ties.

The results have now been refrigerated to prevent them decomposing before they go on display at the Royal Bath and West Show in early June to promote the region's cheeses.

Rest assured that all the obvious cheesy jokes have already been made.
