Speculation in your report that the National Union of Students "appears to have thrown in the towel" (THES, October 3) could not be further from the truth nor is it a fair reflection of the enormous passion against fees among the NUS executive, student unions, parents and potential students concerned over the impact of fees.
No one should be misled. NUS is utterly and without question opposed to tuition fees. The day of demonstrations against tuition fees on November 1 will be the biggest show of student anger seen for many years. We will continue to lobby the government during the implementation process and throughout the passage of legislation. Fees are hated by students and potential students. We will oppose them until the bitter end.
