I must defend myself against Robert Allan's accusation of inaccuracy (THES, September 6).The bloomer about the Scottish king in my Edward III article occurred in a separate box not written by me which I did not see until after publication. I am as Scottish as my great ancestor, and have necessarily been taught the great merits of James VI from an early age. So I could never have made that mistake.
