With reference to your article headlined "Anthem Row Rumbles On" (THES, May 5), I would like to point out that the senate of Queen's University did not "perform a U-turn" by inviting the RUC band to play at the summer graduation garden parties, as your correspondent claims. The university said in its press statement of December 20 and in subsequent statements that the RUC band would be one of a number invited to play at the parties.
This year it will be one of two, the other being the concert band of the South Eastern Education and Library Board, which also played last year. The bands play at the parties in the quadrangle but not at the graduation ceremony in the Sir William Whitla Hall where the music is played by the university's organist.
