(Photograph) - William Buckingham, a final-year history student at Nottingham University, has won the annual Longman/History Today essay prize. A former bricklayer, Mr Buckingham's essay was on military history, in particular, whether war commemorations such as those on VE and VJ Day last year reinforce or dispel popular stereotypes about war.
