Edward Peck, a pro-vice-chancellor at the University of Birmingham, will take over at Nottingham Trent towards the end of the 2013-14 academic year.
Professor Peck, who is also currently head of Birmingham’s College of Social Sciences, tweeted on 20 December that he is “very much looking forward to joining Nottingham Trent University as VC next summer”.
He added: “2014 already shaping up to be an exciting year.”
Professor Peck’s tweet was made ahead of any official announcement by Nottingham Trent, which has said it will issue a statement in the New Year on his appointment.
His selection follows the announcement by Nottingham Trent’s vice-chancellor Neil Gorman in June that he intended to retire from the university in July 2014.
Professor Peck, a philosophy graduate from the University of Bristol, started his career in management before joining the NHS, where he undertook several senior posts.
He joined King’s College London’s Centre for Mental Health Services Development in 1992 and became director in 1994.
He obtained his PhD on the NHS from the University of Newcastle in 1997 before joining the University of Birmingham as director of the Health Services Management Centre in 2002.
His research has focused on leadership and policy implementation in public services and he is professor of public services development, publishing on the subject.
