COULD it be that the Nottingham University academics "underperforming" in research are channelling their energies into teaching? (THES, March 28) And will the individual research plans of those who make the grade allow appropriate time for lecture preparation?
The appraisal of academic staff solely on the grounds of research output implies that teaching ability - and students - are considered unimportant. This is a myopic and ill-conceived idea of a university.
