As a result of its pioneering work, Abu Dhabi University boasts five faculty members in Stanford University’s 2023 list of the most cited researchers
In 2023, five of Abu Dhabi University’s (ADU) academics appeared in Stanford University’s list of the most cited academics. The annual publication, compiled by the Dutch academic publishing company Elsevier, recognises ADU’s commitment to excellence in scholarly pursuits, as well as its impactful and transferable research.
“I am honoured to be among the top 2 per cent of scientists included in both Stanford University’s single-year and career-long lists,” says Shehzad Chaudhry, associate professor of cybersecurity engineering at ADU. “This comes in recognition of having published over 170 papers, including many in highly prestigious publications. In the dynamic field of information security, my focus on authentication and encryption has also led to the delivery of several keynote speeches worldwide.”
The recognition by Stanford is a fitting reward for ADU’s scholars, many of whom have focused on a single area of study for years. “I started on my research in 2019,” says Moatsum Alawida, assistant professor of computer science and information technology at ADU. “I have published more than 45 articles in high-impact journals, with my research focusing on ways to generate new algorithms in the secure communications protocol by using chaos theory.”
Being included in Stanford’s list is an achievement that all stakeholders who have engaged with ADU can take satisfaction from. High-quality research is never a solo affair, relying on an inquisitive and knowledge-seeking environment.
“I am filled with an immense sense of pride,” says Osama Mohamed, chair of the university’s Architecture and Design Department, continues. “Being on the list of the top 2 per cent most cited scientists is not just a personal achievement but also a testament to the collaborative efforts and contributions of the brilliant minds of ADU alumni and current students. It also serves as recognition of the impact ADU has had on the wider scientific community.”
As the Stanford University list indicates, researchers at ADU are committed to pushing the boundaries of science. After all, this is the only way of tackling the substantial challenges facing the world today and creating a sustainable future.
“My research utilises artificial intelligence in condition monitoring,” says Mohammed Ghazal, professor of electrical and computer engineering at ADU. “Some of these conditions are medical in nature. This means we can improve the quality of life for patients affected by a range of conditions, such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s, autism and cancer. Being included in the Stanford list is an honour and privilege. I am very happy with the number of ADU faculty members included alongside me and look forward to other colleagues joining in the future.”
“I have been passionate about working in this field since I began my bachelor’s degree,” says Taimur Hassan, ADU’s assistant professor of Computer Engineering, who also appeared on Stanford’s list. “I was also always interested in sharing my work with the research community in the form of citations and open-source code development. I remain open to mentoring young research students who want to pursue a career in artificial intelligence and the door to my lab, as well as the door to Abu Dhabi University, is always open to these young and brilliant minds.”
