To suggest that the University of Melbourne follows the Bologna model ("Monash to focus overseas", October ) is to misunderstand developments here.
Our Melbourne model, which includes a suite of high-quality stand-alone undergraduate degrees and graduate professional degrees, is consistent with a number of emerging international trends. It has been developed after months of careful consideration of the way higher education is delivered in Asia and the US, as well as in Europe.
We believe it is unique in Australian higher education, aligning Melbourne with best European and Asian practice and American traditions while creating a distinctive "Melbourne experience".
