Was your diarist ( THES , October 26) really present in Frankfurt when I described two concepts of the London School of Economics - the old "fiction of the single-faculty school" and the "postmodern patchwork" of today's LSE? Calling one a "noble emporium" is a pure invention by your diarist: calling the other a "warehouse" (for Warenhaus ) shows the limits of her or his German. Incidentally, nowhere did I "let fly at Anthony Giddens".
