Breaking news: The results of the 2016 THE Asia University Rankings – a newly extended top 200 list – will be released exclusively to summit delegates at a special session with THE rankings editor Phil Baty, on Monday 20 June, the day before their official worldwide publication on 21 June.
More than 30 university presidents from 16 countries will speak at Times Higher Education’s Asia Universities Summit in June.
The event, which takes place at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from 19 to 21 June 2016, will hear from Thomas F. Rosenbaum, president of California Institute of Technology (Caltech) – which has been ranked number one in the THE World University Rankings for the past five years – and Chorh Chuan Tan, president of the National University of Singapore, which became Asia’s leading university last year.
Other confirmed speakers at the event include Gene Block, chancellor of the University of California, Los Angeles; Ana Mari Cauce, president of the University of Washington; Stuart Croft, vice-chancellor and president of the University of Warwick; Wolfgang A. Herrmann, president of the Technical University of Munich; Sung-Mo Kang, president of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST); Dame Nancy Rothwell, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Manchester; and Doh-Yeon Kim, president of Pohang University of Science and Technology (Postech).
Altogether, 31 university presidents will be speaking at the event, which will examine how universities nurture creativity and innovation.
Phil Baty, editor of the THE rankings, said: “This is surely the most prestigious gathering of university leaders in the world. In my 20 years of working in global higher education, I have never experienced an event that brings together so many of the presidents of so many of the world’s very best universities. Some 31 university presidents from 16 countries, across Asia but also including key sector leaders from North America and Europe too, are taking part in the summit, and they will be joined by key industry and government leaders, for two days of intensive discussion, inspiration and networking.”
He added: “An event focussed on one of the most pressing and important challenges facing higher education and research today – how universities nurture creativity and innovation – taking place at the epicentre of university sector’s most exciting continent, hosted in partnership with one of the most dynamic institutions in the world, the Times Higher Education Asia Universities Summit will be one of the truly unmissable events for senior university leaders on the global academic calendar.”
The summit will host the official launch of the fourth THE Asia University Rankings. View the results of last year's Asia University Rankings here.
