Newcastle University was a double winner at the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2015.
The institution won the top prize of outstanding leadership and management team for the second time in three years, as well as the outstanding procurement team category.
Judges praised Newcastle for focusing on the development of leadership skills and capacity throughout the institution through its Leadership Succession Strategy Group, which aims to identify potential long-term successors to key strategic leadership roles, and Faculty Futures, its flagship programme for talent development.
Newcastle also won the prize in 2013 after investing £7 million in a project to give students better teaching, employability skills and representation in the university.
Its procurement team was praised for the collaborative work around its Smartfusion initiative, which was launched to reduce the number of delivery vehicles on campus and to cut its carbon footprint.
Glasgow School of Art picked up the award for outstanding marketing/communications team for its response to the devastating fire that swept through the institution’s famous Mackintosh Building in May 2014, with the Universities of Huddersfield, York, Birmingham and Derby also among the winners.
The ceremony, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, was attended by more than 1,000 people and hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall.
