The recent Australian federal Budget announced lower income thresholds for repaying student debt and a 7.5 per cent increase in tuition fees.
At a Policy Pitch event held at the State Library, Victoria, on Wednesday 6 June 2017, senior higher education figures in Australia held an event to discuss the implications of the changes.
Taking part are: Glyn Davis, vice-chancellor of the University of Melbourne; Sophie Johnston, president of the National Union of Students; and Andrew Norton, higher education programme director at the Grattan Institute. The discussion is chaired by broadcaster Jim Middleton.
The recording has been edited for duration. The full event is available in video and audio at the Grattan Institute. The Policy Shop is a public policy podcast, hosted by Professor Davis.
