The University of Pernambuco was established in 1965 and now has 15 teaching units and three large hospitals across the Recife and Metropolitan Region of Pernambuco, Brazil. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses either face-to-face or through remote learning.

Degree subjects include computing, pedagogy, law, engineering, medicine, and letters. Most courses are offered in either Portuguese or English. There are four distance learning undergraduate courses: biological sciences, letters, pedagogy, and public administration.
At the University of Pernambuco, postgraduate courses are offered to give graduates the professional skills to enhance Brazil’s social and economic development. There are five types of postgraduate courses on offer: specialisation, MBA, residencies, master's and doctorates.
