VSB - Technical University of Ostrava
VSB - Technical University of Ostrava (VSB-TUO) has a long tradition in high-quality technical and economic education, research development and innovation. VSB-TUO is a national leader in High-Performance Computing and energy systems. The University is equipped with a 5G network that connects its key infrastructure, including the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center, a smart factory, e-health system, a centre for additive manufacturing, and a vast sensor network. These facilities create a Live Industry 4.0 Laboratory that enables the University to conduct cutting-edge research in a range of fields.
The faculties and research centres carry out research and development within the University’s fundamental pillars:
- Engineering and Technology
- Computer Science and Cyber Physical Systems
- Energy and Raw Materials
- Economic and Financial Processes.
At VSB-TUO we have two major research institutes:
- IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center is a leading research, development, and innovation centre active in the fields of High-Performance Computing (HPC), Data Analysis (HPDA), Quantum Computing (QC), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and their application to other scientific fields, industry, and society. IT4Innovations operates the most powerful supercomputing systems in the Czech Republic. The key research areas include: big data processing and analysis, machine learning, development of parallel scalable algorithms, solution of computationally demanding engineering problems, advanced visualisation and virtual reality, modelling for nanotechnologies, and material design.
- Centre for Energy and Environmental Technologies (CEET), an excellent research interdisciplinary institute, founded in 2021, brings under one roof four research centres : the ENET Centre, the Nanotechnology Centre, the Institute of Environmental Technology and the Energy Research Centre. The research agenda is focused on the Materials for Energy and Environmental Technologies, Energy Utilisation of Secondary Raw Materials and Alternative Energy Sources, Energy Storage, Transformation and Management, and Environmental Aspects and Technologies. We develop new materials and technologies for low-carbon and sustainable energy and environmental technologies in accordance with the principles of the circular economy.
