Dear Gordon, Piercemuller here. How are you, old boy?

Thank God term's over at last, eh? Sometimes seems to drag on for ever. (Remember when you could shut up shop at the end of June and not think about work again until early October? Happy days!)

There is one blessing. This beach is only a stone's throw from my current research base in the disadvantaged banlieues of St Tropez so, if it wasn't for the gammy knee I picked up falling down the steps of the Carlton Hotel after the European Research Conference, I could walk here in 20 minutes.

Incidentally the local medecin says it's healing well and so should be able to hobble back to the department by late October (please make necessary teaching cancellations).

P.S. Met one of my supervisees on beach yesterday. Claimed to have tracked me down by sat-nav. The horrors of modern technology, eh!
