About Deakin University

Deakin University is a public university in Victoria, Australia. It was established in 1974 and was named after the second Prime Minister of Australia, Alfred Deakin.

The university's main campuses are in Melbourne's Burwood suburb, Geelong Waurn Ponds, Geelong Waterfront and Warrnambool, as well as the online cloud campus. Deakin also has learning centres in Dandenong, Craigieburn and Werribee, all in the state of Victoria.

The university is divided into four faculties, including arts and education, business and law, health, and science, engineering and built environment.Within these faculties are a number of different departments that students can study in including education, midwifery, psychology, information technology, and life and environmental sciences among others.

The university also has six research institutes including Alfred Deakin Institute (ADI), Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute (A²I²), Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM), Institute for Health Transformation (IHT), Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI) and the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN). Along with the research institutes, there are 13 strategic research centres. These cover a number of different research areas including cyber security research, social and early emotional development, population health research and sport research among others.

There is a student association at Deakin University which aims to represent all students across the university. It also coordinates all of the societies and clubs for students of which there are a wide variety which vary from campus to campus.

Notable alumni include Australian cricketer Michael Klinger, author Nitya Prakash, journalist/presenter Emma Alberici and actor Rodger Corser among many others.
