The Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women is a specialist higher education institution in New Delhi, India.
Located at Kashmere Gate in India's capital city, the university is based on the wider campus area of the Delhi Technical College of Engineering. Founded as the Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology in 1998, the modern university gained autonomy in 2013, becoming the first women’s technical higher education institution in India.
The university has approximately 2,000 students and 70 academic staff. According to its mission statement, it strives to be a supportive environment that encourages women into STEM careers with the aim of achieving a healthy work-life balance.
A range of degree programmes are offered across undergraduate and graduate level, with subjects split into four branches of engineering. Popular subjects within these four departments include computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, architecture and planning, and applied sciences and humanities.
Academic facilities at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women include an auditorium, library, specialist laboratories and a dispensary. On site, students also have access to a bank, computer centre and a number of sports and games facilities.
A campus student common room also has fitness equipment, a yoga studio and indoor games. Students are also encouraged to take part in a host of student clubs and extracurricular activities, which include a university literary society, music society, fashion society, dance and drama.
Each year, the university hosts a cultural festival at the beginning of the year, and a two-day summit for entrepreneurship in October. The latter brings together industry and other stakeholders to interact with students and university research.
