About Nitte (Deemed to be University)
Nitte (Deemed to be University) was founded in 2008 as the A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences. In 2009 the institute expanded to include medical, pharmacy, nursing and physiotherapy institutes.
Nitte is located in Mangalore, a city in the Indian state of Karnataka.
Nitte is home to a number of research centres that facilitate innovative research projects led by faculty throughout the year. These centres include the Centre for Advanced Neurological Research, the Leela Narayan Shetty Centre for Cancer Research, and the Centre for Stem Cell research and Regenerative Medicine.
Nitte has a network of 21 rural health centres spread across five districts. These centres provide free outpatient and referral services for members of the local community who are unable to pay for their health care. There is also the Nitte Rural Psychiatric Centre, which provides day care and rehabilitation services as well as free medications to patients. The Nitte-Gajria Specialty Hospital offers laboratory and physiotherapy services and surgical care.
The university is committed to water conservation, adopting sustainable methods for optimising water usage. These methods include using recycled water to maintain the campus’ green landscape and using open wells for rainwater harvesting.
