About Akita International University
Akita International University is a public university located in Akita City, Akita Prefecture, Japan. It was established in 2004 and modelled on the American liberal arts college. It is one of few universities in Japan that teaches all of its courses in English.
The curriculum is divided into five categories: Japan studies, Japanese language, global business, global studies and global connectivity. Students can take both undergraduate and graduate programmes within these disciplines.
The university offers foreign language courses in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Russian, French, and Spanish.
Undergraduate students are expected to study abroad for one year of their degree and non-native English speakers are provided with intensive English for academic purpose (EAP) programmes.
The main campus is located within the city, accessible by public transport and less than 10 minutes from Akita airport. Across the street is a large sports complex for students which includes a gymnasium, tennis courts, athletic track field, cycling paths, archery fields, baseball diamonds, and weight training rooms.
