G. P. H. L. De Silva asks "what is unethical about arms production and trade?" (Letters, THES, August 4). Sadly arms manufacturers do not care whether or not their products are used by repressive regimes, so long as they profit by the sale. I can choose where to invest my own money; I have less control over my pension scheme, other than by lobbying.
