What research has gone into the validating of the bureaucratic systems that British universities are being asked to implement? If their value were explained we might welcome them more.

Cambridge I could not agree more with the spirit of the article by Frank Furedi, but I believe that the new universities are an even better example of bureaucracy gone mad.

In Britain we have a cumbersome teaching and learning quality monitoring system that has only an indirect effect on improving delivery. Because of the great number of person-hours involved, it is parasitic on effective university operation.
