A pioneering study published yesterday has calculated that the social cost of transport in London, including congestion, pollution and accidents, is Pounds 4.69 billion a year -- nearly Pounds 625 per person in the capital. The study carried out by researchers at the University of Kent found that cars exacted the greatest cost at 17.26p per passenger kilometre compared with underground trains at only 0.33 pence.
