The otherwise accurate, balanced report on the proposed consolidation of the Institute of Arable Crops Research ("Final harvest at Long Ashton", THES, October 1) includes one serious piece of erroneous information. Far from "about 200" scientists being likely to lose their jobs, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council expects to make fewer than 50 scientific staff compulsorily redundant.
