There are problems with electronic publishing (Soapbox, THES, March 5). First is the problem of copyright, both regarding the e-book (who owns it - author or site provider?) and the extracts in it (who pays for them?). Second is the need for such books to be recognised as worthwhile publications, especially if undertaken by unknown PhD students.
