Unlike those in your article ("A few that got away", THES, February 5), I travelled in the other direction, returning to higher education as a lecturer in 1993 after 15 years in industry. Except for a growing dislike for acronyms, worries about developing a paper phobia and the original 20 per cent pay cut, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
